The Autumn Wardrobe for Women
Easing into autumn — the coats, knits and small luxuries that carry a wardrobe through the season.

If summer dressing is about ease, autumn dressing is about intention. The layers return, the textures deepen, and the wardrobe becomes a matter of choosing — which coat, which knit, which boot. Done well, it is the most elegant season of all.
The Coat as Cornerstone
Begin with the coat, for it is the thing the world sees first. A long wool coat in camel, navy or a soft charcoal is the foundation; a trench beneath it for the milder days. Choose a cut that skims rather than clings, and length enough to cover a dress or a knit. The coat is worth the investment; it will be worn more than anything else.
Knitwear
Cashmere is not a luxury in autumn; it is a necessity. A fine crew neck in a pale neutral, a heavier cable for the weekend, a long cardigan for the evenings at home. Layer a knit beneath a coat, beneath a blazer, or alone with a silk scarf — it is the most useful cloth in the wardrobe.
Skirts and Trousers
A midi skirt in wool or suede carries the season beautifully with a knit tucked or loose. Trousers of flannel or tailored wool, cut high and full, balance the heavier top half. Avoid the denim that belongs to summer; the autumn wardrobe is not the place for it.
Footwear
A leather boot is the shoe of the season — ankle, knee, or somewhere between. Pair with a slim skirt or a wider trouser. A loafer for the dry days, a proper boot for the wet. Keep the heel low; autumn is a season for walking.
The Finishing Touches
A silk scarf tied at the neck, leather gloves in a quiet colour, a bag that holds more than a phone. The small things matter most when the coat does the talking. Keep the jewellery warm — gold, not silver — and let one piece lead.
